Building Bridges Initiative Taskforce (BBI) and Punguza Mizigo (Constitutional Amendment) Initiative: Confirmation of Failure of the Democratic System of Guesswork
On 9 March 2018, political archrivals President Uhuru Kenyatta and Raila Odinga met in private then issued a joint press statement. The statement indicated the so-called a “New Dawn” and followed by the establishment of BBI for uniting the whole nation via a referendum process to change the governance structure to reduce political conflicts during election time. BBI is due to release its official report on October 2019. Furthermore, on Thursday, 18 July 2019 Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) issued a press release that it received a draft Constitutional Amendment Bill on Thursday 28 February 2019 from the promoters of the Punguza Mizigo (Constitutional Amendment) Initiative of 2019 sponsored by Thirdway Alliance Kenya Party led by Ekuru Aukot. In addition, IEBC after verification it notified the Public and all stakeholders that the Initiative has met the requisite threshold as required by law. Therefore, the bill moved to meet further steps including to be sent to the 47 Counties in order to be passed by 24 or more counties then it will move to the National Assembly and Senate who when they pass it, then it will be sent to the President for assent and become law or if the National Assembly and Senate do not pass it then it will be taken to the people for a referendum!
BBI Taskforce alleges that its creation is to unite Kenyans via changing the governance structure and on the other hand, Punguza Mizigo Initiative claims that is aiming at reducing the burden on Kenyans by maintaining the governance structure and reducing its positions! Certainly, it is disheartening and shameful to see the leaders promoting the BBI Taskforce and Punguza Mizigo Initiative are the same who were involved in the process of delivering the 2010 Constitution! Ekuru Aukot was in the Committee of Experts who harmonized the proposal for the 2010 Constitution and on the other hand, Raila and Uhuru were on the camp that encouraged people to vote for the 2010 Constitution!
It is off-putting and appalling since these purported leaders are taking people in circles without telling them the truth that in origin constitutional change is change of interests for a few people who are in or ascending to power. Second, it is not a long-term solution to problems facing the nation because the system itself its foundation does not emanate from Allah (swt) instead is from the secular creed (separating religion and life/government). This system exists to safeguard humanity’s freedoms including freedom of worship, freedom of ownership, freedom of expression and personal freedom. In other words, is a guesswork system same as someone who is in darkness (problems) and in perpetual seeking of light (solutions)!
Indeed, humankind need a guidance that is beyond doubt and emanating from Allah (swt). The said guidance is Shari’ah (Qur’an and Sunnah) and peoples’ success and failure is determined by their adhering to the Shari’ah. Therefore, for Kenyans and humanity in general across the world to realize genuine peace and prosperity they are required to refer to the guidance of Allah (swt) by joining and working for the call of the resumption of the Islamic way of life via the reestablishment of the Islamic state of Khilafah (Caliphate) on the method of Prophethood in one of the Muslim countries for instance Pakistan, Bangladesh, Egypty etc.
The ruling system in the Khilafah is not based on guesswork as witnessed today in the fake democratic system! Since its governance structure, revenues and expenditure are fixed by the Shari’ah from the first Khalifah (Caliph) Abu Bakr (ra) when he ascended to power in 632 until the last Khalifah of hundred and one Abdulmajid II in 1924.
