Muhammad Mursi’s Death: A Lesson to All Muslims’ Movements

On Monday, 17 June 2019, mainstream news in the Muslims’ world and across the world was the death of Muhammad Mursi who was once the president of Egypt (2012 – 2013). The government of Egypt said that the cause of death was as a result of a heart attack despite the fact that Mursi’s family still insist that al-Sisi’s government has a hand in his death by not granting him medical rights. The news disheartened Muslims across the world especially the fact that Mursi was facing espionage charges in court.

Muhammad Mursi was famously remembered by being a member of the Muslim Brotherhood party that was established in 1928 by the founder Hassan al-Bana. Muslim Brotherhood was banned in Egypt due to its calling for the resumption of the Islamic laws via democratic means. Since the party was banned hence in 2000 Muhammad Mursi contested and was elected as an independent candidate and served until 2005. After the Egypt Revolution that led to the fall of Hosni Mubarak, Muslim Brotherhood was legalized and it launched the Freedom and Justice Party on 30 April 2011 and Muhammad Mursi became the president of the new party. Muhammad Mursi participated in the 2012 Egypt elections as a presidential candidate and emerged victorious by garnering 51.7% of votes against Ahmed Shafiq. He ruled as President of Egypt from 30 June 2012 to 3 July 2013. Then the Head of the Army Abdel Fatah al-Sisi who is the current President of Egypt toppled him from power.

Indeed, Muhammad Mursi ascended to power but it was not through the method of following the Prophet (saw) and his aim was not to execute Islam comprehensively. In other words the method guided him to the darkness contrary to the Ummah’s wish of being led to the light of being governed by the Shari’ah (Qur’an and Sunnah) and the people of power (the army) were not on his side instead were under the Orders of the Western colonialists especially America. Therefore, due to the absence of the three main foundations that are 1. Correct method of ascending to power 2. Instant and comprehensive implementation of the Shari’ah the moment he ascended to power 3. The army being in the hands of non-Muslims became the major reason for his instability and ultimately led to his removal from power and subsequently taken to prison!

Certainly, the death of Muhammad Mursi as Muslims we have learnt that it is imperative to be careful so that we are not to be carried by emotions when we are on the process of seeking change. Since radical change requires a profound thought/creed, from which systems emanate. It is crucial to realize that despite the fact we are an Ummah we have no guardian and shield, an Islamic State of Khilafah (Caliphate) that governs as per the Shari’ah. Therefore, we have no option than to aim at resuming the Islamic way of life via reestablishing the Khilafah. In order to realize the aim it is compulsory to follow the method that the Prophet (saw) used when he was in Makkah before ascending to power in Madinah.

By not understanding the objective and using, an incorrect method to ascend to power the outcome was what faced Muhammad Mursi and those who preceded him. Islam is a political Deen and for Muslims to succeed is until their politics is governed by a just leader, the Khalifah (Caliph) who is not limited by the boundaries drawn by the colonialists. A Khalifah who from the moment the Khilafah is reestablished he will run fast to unite all the Muslims’ lands and face with an iron fist all the oppressors of Muslims across the world and at the same time declare Jihad to liberate Kashmir and Palestine from the hands of the filthy Jewish occupiers.

O Muslims across the world remember that your mourning for the death of Muhammad Mursi is an indication that we are One Ummah and that should be under One State and One Leader, the Khalifah. A leader that would have protected Muhammad Mursi from the hands of the tyrannical agent rulers that include al-Sisi that are plotting every day to continue the spilling of the noble Islamic Ummah’s blood. The most important issue is to unite and work together for the resumption of the Islamic way of life by reestablishing the Khilafah on the method of Prophethood. That is better for us in this life and the hereafter.
