Politics of Hatred and Divisions a Proof for Ideological Bankruptcy of Democracy and its Followers

Press Release

Finally, President Uhuru Kenyatta has been sworn in for the second term in office in a ceremony attended by various heads of state and boycotted by the politicians from the opposition side. The fete has come when the country is engulfed with ethnic divisions, hate speech and loss of lives. In his inaugural speech, the President acknowledged that he has a huge task ahead of healing and uniting a divided nation, which finds itself into unrest in every election cycle.

We in Hizb ut Tahrir Kenya wish to mention the following:

The problems of ethnic divisions, polarization and loss of lives that are witnessed in every election cycle serve as a clear proof that both Democratic politicians are ideologically bankrupt since their campaigns are fully based on hatred and divisions. This is not particular to Kenyan politicians; but includes those of the Western nations as demonstrated in their election campaigns where they incite religious tensions between Muslims and Christians and racist policies between the whites and blacks. These all are sufficient proofs that have conceded that they cannot win elections based on their sound political, economic, and social policies. It further proves incapability of the democratic system to uproot tribal divisions.

It is true Kenyan problems need to be addressed; but since all politicians from both political divide either ruling on opposition have embraced poor capitalist policies. The invalid capitalist ideology is the root cause of all problems facing the world in general. Capitalism is anchored on enriching the rich and exploiting the poor ultimately resulting in a huge gap between the wealthy and the poor. That was the reason as to why three successive regimes that ruled Kenya failed to address the citizens’ challenges despite having some amendments including changing the constitution and election committees. Therefore, opposition’s demand to have changes on the electoral system and respect to rule of law all those are attempts to introduce cosmetic changes to an ideology that is founded on evil.

We say Kenya and the whole world is in dire need of Islam and its political framework (Khilafah) which has clear solutions to the problems facing humanity. Islam defines politics as sincerely taking care of the needs of the people rather than a power struggle among the politicians who fight for their own benefit. A system where role of political parties will not be as vehicles for ascension to power. Instead they will be tasked with oversight role to ensure the leadership is fulfills its responsibility and deliver to all its citizens.
