Circle 16: The Prophet’s (saw) Journey to Taif to Seek Nusrah and Protection from The Thaqif

Distinguished brothers and sisters, we continue with the sequence of circles on the Prophet’s (saw) methodology for revival and in circle 16 we will talk about: The Prophet’s (saw) journey to Taif to seek Nusrah and protection from the Thaqif.

Ibn Ishaq said: When Abu Talib died, the Quraysh intensified their nuisance against the Prophet (saw) never seen before his death.

The Prophet set out for a journey to Taif to seek for Nusrah and protection with confidence that they will accept from him what he brought for them from Allah Ta’ala, he went to them alone, they gave him a worst response as we shall see ahead…!!

Here it requires a good understanding, and we should have a great contemplation, and we recall that previously we had mentioned this in the subject of seeking Nusrah, and we repeat for the second time as an emphasis, that seeking of Nusrah is a matter that is required to be so secretive. Consequently, the Prophet (saw) used to go seeking the Nusrah alone or with one of his companions, which implies confidentiality. This task does not require knowledge from others except those in the leadership…!!

When the Prophet (saw) arrived in Taif he targeted a group within the Thaqif who were their chiefs and notables, and they were three: Abdu Yalayl, Mas’ud, and Habib, together with a Quraysh woman, he sat with them and call them to Allah, he explained what he had come to them with of asking for their support to him and Islam, and stand with him against however opposes him among his people.

One of them said: “I will steal the Ka’aba’s cloth, if Allah has sent you with anything…!!” The other one said: “Was Allah unable to send anyone else except you…!!!?” The third one said: “By Allah! I will never speak to you after this sitting; if truly you were a prophet as you purport, then you are of great caliber and more right that you don’t deserve to speak with me!!! And if you are lying against Allah, then you are a great evil that I don’t deserve to speak with you!!! It is not required of me to talk to you!!!”. The Prophet (saw) stood up while in a state of despair on the Thaqif, he said to them: “If that is what you have resolved then hide me!!!”

They never did so, instead they sent their goons and slaves to insult and stone him until a crowd gathered at him, they ridiculed him (saw) and stood in two rows with stones, every step he (saw) made they stoned, ridiculed and humiliating him, …!!

When he (saw) left them, he sat at their garden under the grape tree, full of stress and pai. His (saw) feet were bleeding; at the garden were Utbah and Shaibah the sons of Rabi’ah.

When he (saw) saw them he detested to approach them knowing their animosity to Allah and His Messenger and the sons of Rabi’ah were staring at him, seeing what the goons of Taif were perpetrating. When the Prophet (saw) cooled down, he started supplicating to his Lord with a Du’ah which opens the hearts and drives the minds:

((OH LORD TO YOU I REPORT MY WEAKNESS, AND SCARCITY OF MY TACTICS, AND MY FRAGILITY TO THE PEOPLE, OH THE MOST MERCIFUL, YOU ARE THE LORD OF THE WEAK, AND YOU ARE MY LORD, TO WHOM ARE YOU TURNING ME TO? TO THE FAR ONE WHO WILL ASSAULT ME OR TO THE ENEMY WHOM YOU GRANTED HIM AUTHORITY OVER MY AFFAIR? IF YOU ARE NOT ANGRY AT ME I DON’T BOTHER!! BUT MY WELBEING FROM YOU IS MY COMFORT, I SEEK REFUGE WITH YOUR LIGHT THAT HAS SHINED OVER DARKNESS, AND ORGANIZED THE WORLD AND THE HEREAFTER THAN YOUR ANGER DESCENDING UPON ME, TO YOU IS THE RETURN UNTIL YOU ARE PLEASED, AND NO EASE OR STRENGTH EXCEPT FROM YOU))

The Prophet (saw) did all what he could, and with all his ability and strength from Allah, and the Prophet (saw) remained with nothing but the strength from Allah Almighty that none can match with…!!

ومن يتوكل على الله فهو حسبه

“And he who depends on Allah will suffice him” [Twalaq: 3]

When Shayba and Utbah sons of Rabi’ah saw what befell the Prophet (saw), they were touched and sympathized with him, they called their Christian servant whose name was: Addas, and told him: “Take these grapes, put them in a container and take them to that man, and tell him to eat”, Addas did as ordered. He went and placed them in front of the Prophet (saw) then he said to him: “Eat”, the Prophet (saw) put his hand and said: in the Name of Allah, the he eat. Addas looked at the Prophet’s face then he said: “By Allah! Such words are not said to the people of this city”, The Prophet (saw) asked him, “Which city are you from?”, he replied: “I am from Ninawa city”, The Prophet (saw) said: “It is among the cities of the righteous man Yunus bin Mattaa”, Addas asked: “Do you know Yunus bin Mattaa?”, The Prophet (saw) replied: “This is my brother he was a prophet and I am a Prophet”. Addas bowed down at the Prophet (saw) and kissed his head, hands and feet…!!

One of the sons of Rabi’ah said to the other: “He has brainwashed youth”, when Addas returned they asked him: “Woe unto you! What is the matter with you, why were you kissing the man’s head, hands and feet…??!!” He replied: “Oh my master there is nothing better in this land than that man…!! He informed me of a matter that no one knows except a prophet…!!” They told him: “Woe unto you oh Addas, let him not remove you from your religion, your religion is better than his…!!”

Distinguished brothers and sisters we will stop here for today we hope to meet again in another circle in the sequence of circles on the Prophet’s (saw) Methodology for Revival. We remind you the need to share this sequence to your friends and loved ones as your Prophet (saw) said:

الدال على الخير كفاعله

“He who guides to a good deed is like the doer of the deed (in rewards)”

Receive our greetings Assalam Alaykum

It will continue in UQAB Issue 21… In Shaa Allah.
